Five Ideas for a Cheery Winter Wardrobe
If you’ve read Mac Barnett’s book, Extra Yarn, the little girl lives with her dog in a cold town where everything is either the white of snow or the black of soot from chimneys. Sometimes a long spell of overcast days in the winter can make us feel the same – especially after the holiday decorations and outdoor lights have been stacked away. But winter is a special time and as a wise saying goes – the color of springtime is flowers, the color of winter is in our imagination – we bring you wardrobe ideas for your little ones that will get them out of their cozy covers and into a world of wintery imagination! (Quote by anthologist Terri Guillemets)
Lighten Up – No, we are not talking about getting rid of the puffy jackets – those are needed to fight the outdoor chill, but a light inner top that is both weightless and warm is a perfect combination for taking off some of the heaviness when indoors. A double layered gauze fabric does just the trick. The fine textured weave, breathable fabric and two layers keep it naturally light and cozy. From our winter collection, the Scout Top in a double voile is one of our favorites, and always looks sharp!
Add Color – Neutral tones that complement the season look great and feel cheerful! May we suggest the Max Top in a mauve check that checks the box for being lightweight and striking – and a perfect complement to a frosty morning.
Smart Casuals – Why should grown ups have all the fun looking smart and casual? Smart dressing is equally relevant for children. It keeps them comfortable and makes them feel confident. Our Brook skirt in burgundy corduroy paired with a light sweater and tights looks right any time of the day – and checks the boxes on flounce, comfort and care.
Spring Forward – and why not? Add a touch of pastels, some flowers and design detail – our clothes and surroundings can impact our mood and we should take advantage of what we can control. The Piper Tunic dress in a lovely blue is a great reminder of clear skies and sunshiny days!
Last but not the least, Keep it Cozy – it is winter after all. Choose fabrics that are warm, yet bright. The Sawyer dress is made of slightly thicker cotton and is fully lined and the ocean blue check is bright and happy. It’s sure to keep your littles cozy, warm and give them a spring in their step. :)
And as Mac Barnett showed in Extra Yarn, it only takes a few bright clothes, a little imagination and whole lot of kindness to turn a gray town into a cheery winter landscape. We’ll supply the clothes and we already know our families have oodles of the rest!
We wish you and your littles a winter of color, imagination and adventure!
